Kate Meis
Associate Director
Kate (Wright) Meis is an Associate Director at the Local Government Commission. Her work focuses on assisting local governments to reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions. Kate is the lead on the Statewide Energy Upgrade California, program, the Statewide Energy Efficiency Collaborative and directs LGC’s climate change adaptation work.
Kate has worked with the Local Government Commission since 2006. She has been directly involved in the planning and production of two statewide workshop series the first on CEQA and Climate Change co-hosted by the Attorney General’s Office and the second on Implementing SB 375 co-hosted by the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research and Senator Darrell Steinberg. In 2006 she conducted a study analyzing the integration of smart growth principles in California general plans.
Kate has presented at national and state conferences, workshops and council meetings and developed educational materials on climate change mitigation and adaptation.
Before coming to the Local Government Commission Kate conducted research for the UC Davis Department of Environmental Science and Policy, Transportation Alternatives of Marin, 4-H Center for Youth Development and the University of California Cooperative Extension. She obtained a Masters of Science degree in Community and Regional Development from the University of California, Davis.
