Steve Tracy
Senior Research Consultant
Steve has been a Research Consultant for the Local Government Commission since January 1999. Prior to that, he worked for over 14 years as a planner with Sacramento County. As project manager and author for the 1993 Sacramento County General Plan Circulation, Noise, and Hazardous Materials Elements he participated in development of one of the first General Plans in California to incorporate some of the Ahwahnee Principles for More Livable Communities.
Steve was the researcher and author of Smart Growth Zoning Codes: A Resource Guide, published by the Local Government Commission in early 2003. In that capacity he reviewed over 200 smart growth codes and ordinances from across the nation in order to identify some of the best models for use in other communities. Other published works include co-authorship of several articles in peer review academic journals such as The Transportation Research Record, and The Journal of The American Planning Association. Most recently, Steve is the author of two factsheets written for the LGC, Traffic Calming and Emergency Response and Street Design and Emergency Response, both available for download on the LGC's web site.
