This information is one of a series describing the 1999 Ahwahnee
Award winners, and includes text and graphics from the entry application.
The Ahwahnee Awards program was initiated by the Local Government
Commission (LGC) in 1994 to recognize projects, plans and programs
that help create more livable, pedestrian-and transit-friendly
communities in one of the 14 western states. The awards are named
in honor of the Ahwahnee Principles developed in 1991 by leading
architects and urban designers and first presented at a conference
at the Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite National Park. The 1999 awards
program was cosponsored by the American Institute of Architects,
California Council (AIACC) and the California Chapter of the American
Planning Association (CCAPA).
The Local Government Commissions Center
for Livable Communities has produced illustrated model project
write-ups for award winners with details on each of these efforts.
They can be ordered from the Local Government Commissions
Center for Livable Communities at a cost of $12.00 for the entire
set of nine. To place an order, please call Karen Cole at (916)
448-1198.
