Principles for Livable Communities

Center Resources

Events
The Center organizes a variety of conferences, workshops, and training sessions on land use and transportation-related issues.

Bookstore
The Center publishes a monthly newsletter, Livable Places Update, and has produced a variety of easy-to-read guidebooks that explore models and tools for improving land use and transportation planning. The Center also has a useful catalog of videos, slides and presentations to help introduce and implement the concepts of transit-and pedestrian-oriented land use planning.

Community Image Surveys
The Center trains local agencies and organizations in how to use visual surveys properly, develops area-specific surveys, and helps communities develop their own surveys. Sample surveys from will soon be available for sale through the LGC Bookstore.

Free Resources
The Center maintains speakers lists, bibliographies, and an array of different information -- including studies, reports and model codes -- on outstanding examples of pedestrian- and transit-oriented land use planning from across the country. The Center also maintains a growing collection of articles under 120 subject areas -- from "Adaptive Re-Use" to "Youth Planning." You can find selected items in our Free Resources section.

Ahwahnee Awards
The Center sponsors the Ahwahnee Awards for innovations and excellence in pedestrian- and transit-oriented land use planning. In previous years, awards have been given to local agencies, private developers, and community groups.
