Come join us for the 22nd Annual Ahwahnee Conference for Local Elected Officials.
This year's conference has been carefully designed to answer the year's most burning question, "How do we help our communities become more vital and economically successful when it seems we have fewer financial resources than ever before?" Your answers might come from partnering with local businesses, developers, or local nonprofits; perhaps even your local residents can help. The answers might come from modifying your land use patterns so that they are designed to accommodate the workers of the New Economy. Or help might come in the form of surprising new revenue sources.
Our speakers will provide you with ideas and answers and lots of good discussion. Among our confirmed and invited speakers are the Speaker of the Assembly, Assemblyman John Perez; Kim Walesh, San Jose's innovative Economic Development Director; Michael Freedman, the urban planner and architect of downtown Mt. View and other highly successful cities; Cisco DeVries, the man behind the new version of the PACE energy financing tool; Glenda Humiston, CA State Director of USDA, Rural Development; Commissioner Mark Ferron of the CA Public Utilities Commission; Ken Kay, landscape architect and urban greening expert; Ilaria Salvadori, Director of San Francisco's Parklet Program; and Connie Martinez, Director of 1stACT Silicon Valley. More on the 2013 Agenda...
You can also join the discussion at the pre-conference event on Thursday evening to examine the steps communities can take to prepare for and adapt to climate change and extreme weather events. Hear other leaders’ experiences with cutting-edge local and regional efforts and discover where to find the resources and information you will need to begin addressing this serious topic. The pre-conference session will be held in the Ahwahnee Hotel on Thursday evening, March 14.
The full program begins the evening of March 15 and continues through Sunday March 17 at noon. As always, there will be free time on Saturday afternoon for enjoying the winter beauty of Yosemite Valley. Please join us for one of the most exciting events of the year, held in one of the world’s most beautiful locations!
This conference sells out every year because attendees say the format is uniquely structured to combine fresh ideas with hands-on discussion of how to implement them. The main conference program begins at 7:30 pm on Friday, March 16th, and continues through noon on Sunday. We encourage you to bring your family, attend the pre-conference session on Thursday evening, and use the session breaks to ski, hike, skate or just enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite in the winter.
We will continue to develop the agenda for this year's conference so check back soon for more details.
