Communities eager to improve safety, health and livability are recognizing that “Complete Streets” are a key part of that effort. The way we build and retrofit our streets has a direct impact on walking, bicycling, transit-use and driving.
Complete Streets can help improve air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by increasing walking, bicycling and transit use, and reducing vehicle trips and miles traveled. But we can also design streets that incorporate “green” features that result in a lighter ecological footprint and reduced impacts on water, air and land.
The environment in which we live has a direct impact on our health. This workshop will explore the connections between health and the built environment with specific Sacramento examples that highlight how Complete Streets result in improved health and reduced traffic injuries.
Federal, state and regional policymakers are also recognizing the benefits of Complete Streets, and are adopting legislation and other mandates to facilitate their implementation. Along with this effort comes increased funding to complete our streets.
At this one-day workshop, participants learned about the laws, policies, measures and financing mechanisms that are now on the books to help complete our streets in the Sacramento region.
The LGC secured Certification Maintenance (CM) accreditation for AICP Planners for this workshop. A total of 5.5 CM credits are available for attending the daylong event. AICP Planners who attended the workshop will need to report their CM credits through the online CM log.
