Creating Walkable Communties

One-day Class with Dan Burden

Class Overview:

Pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure expert Dan Burden used scores of striking images and examples to show how the building blocks of good land use planning lay the groundwork for pedestrian access and mobility as well as safe and efficient traffic flow.

He illustrated the features of well-designed streets, sidewalks, crosswalks, bicycle lanes, parking lanes and other elements of walkable communities. In addition, he highlighted case studies and solutions to specific challenges and emphasized economic and community-building reasons to design for walkability.

Dan Burden is a nationally recognized authority on pedestrian, bicycle and traffic calming facilities and programs with over 30 years of experience developing, promoting and evaluating walkable and bicycle-friendly community design. He is a founder of the Bicycle Federation of America and director of Walkable Communities, Inc.
