The Workshop

This event focus on the topic of global climate change and the potential air quality, land use, and economic impacts in the Sacramento Region. The target audience of city and county elected officials, county executives and city managers had the opportunity to question speakers and engage in a dialogue regarding effective steps jurisdictions in the Sacramento region can take to reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the city and county level.

Featured Topics included:

  • The basic science behind climate change and its affects on the Sacramento Region.
  • Addressing the California Environmental Quality Act and the effects of AB 32.
  • What cities and counties are doing to take on the CEQA challenge.
  • Cost effective actions cities can take to reduce greenhouse emissions.
  • Actions being taken in the Sacramento region to advance and support innovative green business.

This event included a special exercise where city and county elected officials, county executives and city managers identified which issues are important for the region and the tools and resources they would like available to reduce greenhouse emissions. The results of this exercise are available on the resources page.

Keynote speakers:

  • James Goldstene, Executive Officer, California Air Resources Board, will talk about the critical need to address climate change and the Air Resources Board’s role in meeting climate change goals.
  • Jackalyne Pfannenstiel, Chair, California Energy Commission, will share how land use decisions made by local governments affect greenhouse gas emissions, and the critical importance of local government leadership in reaching the goals of AB 32.
