Emergency Response, Traffic Calming, and Traditional Neighborhood Streets Workshop

Date: July 12, 2004, Petaluma, CA

This one-day workshop included a presentation by Dan Burden of Walkable Communities, Inc. to inform city planners, traffic engineers, city managers, elected officials, fire marshals, and other emergency responders about traffic calming and traditional neighborhood street design. Mr. Burden described the art and science of neighborhood planning and traffic management, showing how well-conceived traffic calming techniques and narrower street design can accommodate the needs of emergency responders while creating safe and livable neighborhoods.
