Developing Smart Growth Zoning Codes Workshop
Dates: December 4 - Fresno, December 5 -
Bakersfield, December 6 - Lodi, 2002
Many of our community members are clamoring for smart growth development
that delivers attractive, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. Unfortunately,
the majority of zoning codes in California were written when the
car was king. Today, zoning codes and planning policies are one
of the major impediments to making smart growth a reality.
These workshops provided planners, local elected officials and
developers with the tools to assist in either fine-tuning or completely
revamping their zoning codes and policies to create more livable
communities. Smart growth planning experts and local government
officials who have designed and implemented smart growth zoning
codes addressed a number of issues, including:
- Mixed-use
- Alternative street standards
- Zoning administration
- Parking standards
- Revitalizing main streets and downtown
- Designing compact, walkable neighborhoods
- Transit supportive development
