Developing Smart Growth Zoning Codes Workshops
Dates: December 9, 2004, Pasadena, CA
Intro | Agenda
Many communities are clamoring for smart growth development that
delivers attractive, walkable, mixed-use neighborhoods. Unfortunately,
current zoning codes and land development regulations present major
impediments to making smart growth a reality.
This workshop provided tools to assist in either fine-tuning
or completely revamping a community's zoning codes and policies
to create more livable communities.
Smart growth planning experts and local government officials with
experience in preparing smart growth codes and land development
regulations addressed a number of issues, including:
- Designing compact, walkable neighborhoods
- Incentives for mixed-use development
- Revitalizing main streets and downtown
- Getting the street standards right
- Form-based codes
