Creating Vibrant Neighborhoods for
Our Growing Latino Population
Date: November 15, 2003, South Gate, CA
The LGC and its partners are working to develop and foster leadership
capacity among Latino/Latina elected officials. This leadership
development seminar was the first of 3 regional workshops being
held in Southern California that addressed a variety of issues
that local government officials are facing as well as provided
experts that assisted in advancing the dialogue of those problems
while providing practical solutions.
The program featured innovative strategies that local governments and school
districts can implement to use schools as educational centers as well as
places that parents and children can use as recreational facilities. In addition,
we featured the "The Ahwahnee Principles for Smart Economic Development," which
are a set of economic development principles that local governments can use
and adopt to revitalize their cities. We presented these principles and provided
real life examples of what other cities are doing to increase economic development.
