Building Livable Communities:

Bringing Together People and Nature in
Small Towns and Big Cities

Ninth Annual Yosemite Conference

This Year's Theme

Polls show that 70% of the population wants to live next to a natural environment. Experience has also shown that they will pay more for the privilege. Particpants learned how both urban and rural communities are integrating nature into developed areas by creating places that are good for everyone: people, kids, birds, fish, and polliwogs.

Special Pre-Conference Session

Jim Diers, Director, Seattle’s Department of Neighborhoods, described his highly successful program. He is building civic responsibility, self sufficiency, and a sense of community in Seattle.

Conference Schedule

This conference has sold out each year because attendees say the format is uniquely structured to combine fresh new ideas with hands-on discussion of how to implement them. The main conference program began at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, March 10th, and continued through Noon on Sunday. Many participants brought their families, attended the pre-conference session on Thursday evening, and used the session breaks to ski, hike, skate, or just enjoy the breathtaking beauty of Yosemite in the winter. See the Agenda for more information.
