Building Livable Communities:
Making the Connections Between Sustainability
and Security
March 22 - 24, 2002, Yosemite National Park
This Year's Theme
The Ahwahnee Principles offer local leaders an important blueprint
for strengthening the sense of community in our neighborhoods,
towns and cities while insulating us from the disruption that
is the goal of terrorism. At this yearÍs conference we looked
at community self-reliance from a number of perspectives including
water, transportation, economic vitality and energy. We examined
the role of regions and how the multiple layers of information
we need can be coordinated and accessed. This was a how-to-do
it conference. Local officials went home with specific program
ideas that they can implement.
