ARB Expands Electric Vehicle Loan and Incentive Programs
The California Air Resources Board (ARB) has expanded its Electric
Vehicle (EV) Loan Program. This short-term EV loan program was launched
by the ARB, the South Coast Air Quality Management District, and
the Department of General Services to encourage the leasing of electric
vehicles by public agencies. Benefits include zero emissions, quiet
and reliable transportation, and a positive environmental image
for public agencies.
In its two years of operation, the program has provided over 500
loans of vehicles. Through the loan program, public agencies (cities,
counties, special districts, schools, state and federal) have the
opportunity to experience the benefits of EVs for free: both the
vehicle and charger are provided by the program at no cost to public
agencies, which are responsible for liability insurance during the
period of the loan.
The program was recently expanded to include the Toyota RAV4 EV
in addition to the Honda EV Plus, GM EV1, Chevy S10 pickup and Ford
Ranger EV pickup. Agencies can participate more than once if they
wish to try a different EV model.
Put Some ZIP in Your EV
The California Air Resources Board also has a Zero Emission Vehicle
Incentive Program (ZIP) that provides up to $9,000 towards the lease
of a qualifying EV. For more information, contact Lisa Kasper at
