San Francisco Maps Its Sunny Spots

San Francisco CablecarThe Solar Energy Monitoring Network in San Francisco is mapping the City’s solar friendly areas in an effort to make it the nation's largest municipal generator of solar power and renewable energy. Despite the City's world famous fog, the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission has plans to add 10 megawatts of solar energy to the electricity grid over the next five years, enough to power 10,000 homes. The City's ambitions also include installing photovoltaic panels on many publicly-owned buildings, such as schools and parking garages. The first installation, on the Moscone Center, has already occurred.
