An Energy Newsletter for Local Governments
The
Solar Energy Monitoring Network in San Francisco is mapping the
Citys solar friendly areas in an effort to make it the nation's
largest municipal generator of solar power and renewable energy.
Despite the City's world famous fog, the San Francisco Public Utilities
Commission has plans to add 10 megawatts of solar energy to the
electricity grid over the next five years, enough to power 10,000
homes. The City's ambitions also include installing photovoltaic
panels on many publicly-owned buildings, such as schools and parking
garages. The first installation, on the Moscone Center, has already
occurred.
