Funding Available for CA Urban Forestry Projects
The National Tree Trust and California
ReLeaf have announced
that funding is available to community-based groups throughout
California for urban forestry projects. The grant funds are made
available by the CA Department of Forestry and Fire Protection
and are administered through the CA ReLeaf 2004 Urban Forestry
Grant Program.
Individual grants range from $1,000 to $7,500 for projects in
one of three funding categories: Tree Planting; Tree Care: and
Education, Outreach and Volunteer Development. Nonprofit organizations,
unincorporated community groups, and city-affiliated volunteer
entities — such as tree advisory boards or beautification committees
— are eligible to apply. Applicants may submit only one proposal.
The application deadline is February 3, 2004, and award decisions
will be announced March 23rd. Grant recipients will
have until May 13, 2005 to complete their grant-funded projects.
California ReLeaf promotes alliances among individuals, organizations,
industries, and government, encouraging each to contribute to
the livability of our cities and the protection of our local
and global environment by planting and caring for trees. ReLeaf
is a program of the National Tree Trust, an organization establish
in 1990 to mobilize volunteer groups and promote public awareness
of trees and their benefits throughout the United States.
