Free Workshops on Compost-Based Erosion Control

Caltrans and the California Integrated Waste Management Board (CIWMB) are hosting workshops on improving vegetation establishment and erosion control with compost-based BMPs. CIWMB, in partnership with the Caltrans Headquarters Landscape Architecture Program, recently developed new special provisions that focus on using compost to improve roadside vegetation and reduce erosion. A series of four workshops has been scheduled as follows:

• San Luis Obispo - August 21
• Chino - August 23
• Redding - September 25
• Tahoe - September 27

These workshops will provide practical tools and information on using compost for erosion control and revegetation. The workshops are being provided free of charge, including lunch, snacks, and beverages. Also, a new publication, "Compost Use for Landscape and Environmental Enhancement" will be provided to workshop participants.
