SDREO Launches its Public Agency Energy Partnership Program

The San Diego Public Agency Energy Partnership Program was recently launched to provide information, technical assistance and implementation support to help local public agencies take energy efficiency measures from idea to implementation. Through the program, SDREO will assist public agencies to develop comprehensive energy management strategies, develop and adopt energy–efficient policies and practices, and implement specific energy projects.

Solar PV Array - Sand Diego SkylineAll public agencies in the San Diego region are eligible to participate, including local governments, schools, colleges, universities, libraries, fire departments, the U.S. military, state and federal agencies and special districts.

Participating public agencies can receive the following benefits:

  • Free energy audits
  • Project implementation assistance
  • Model energy action plans and policies
  • Comprehensive public agency energy information web site
  • Workshops on energy efficiency topics

How Does the Program Work?

  1. Conduct Initial Meeting – SDREO staff will meet with public agency staff to discuss the program, the steps to move forward and any previous energy management activities.
  2. Form an Energy Management Team – The participating agency must form an energy management team, if it has not already done so. SDREO can help determine which staff members should be considered.
  3. Develop and Energy Action Plan – SDREO staff will help the participating agency develop a comprehensive energy action plan including building management, policy review and development, and purchasing strategies. If there already is an energy action plan, SDREO can help expand it if needed.
  4. Sign Participation Agreement – If SDREO conducts on site work such as audits, participating agencies must sign a participation agreement.
  5. SDREO Assists in Energy Action Plan Implementation – SDREO will help participating agencies prioritize possible energy actions, identify energy savings opportunities through energy audits, and identify incentives and financing.
