Cool Savings with Cool Roofs Rebate Program Ends

After nearly two and a half years, the Cool Savings with Cool Roofs rebate program has officially come to an end! This highly successful program awarded rebates for the installation of over 61 million square feet of cool roofing on air-conditioned and refrigerated buildings in California. By reflecting the heat from the sun away from buildings and reducing cooling loads across the state, these roofs will reduce the total load on California’s energy grid by a whopping 21.5 MW — enough energy to power between 10-15,000 average homes!

The public sector took full advantage of the Cool Savings program to save money on roofing installation and maintenance costs as well as energy. Through the program, over 7.5 million sq./ft. of cool roofing was installed on California’s schools and colleges. Cities and counties installed nearly 2.5 million sq./ft. on municipal facilities. Another 1 million sq./ft. installed on state and special district structures. These roofs will save money for municipalities across California through reduced energy consumption and decreased maintenance costs, both key cost-cutting factors in times of budget cuts and financial uncertainty.
