An Energy Newsletter for Local Governments
On May 12 the Center for Resource Solutions (CRS) will be hosting a statewide stakeholder meeting to solicit input on its Green-e Renewable Energy Certification standards for the state. The stakeholder group will consist of representatives from utilities, renewable energy generator and advocacy groups, regulatory agencies, and environmental and consumer protection organizations.
Green-e is the nation's leading renewable energy certification program (details at http://www.green-e.org/). CRS awards Green-e certification to qualifying renewable energy products that include competitive market electricity, utility green pricing, and tradable renewable certificates. In 1998-2001 when California was home to vibrant competitive electricity markets over 100,000 California customers received Green-e certified renewable energy products. Now fewer customers are being served by competitive electricity markets, while more utilities offer "green pricing" options.
Green-e has determined a need to revisit our certification criteria to consider whether the document needs to be updated to reflect changes in California's renewable energy policies since the original criteria were drafted for competitive electricity products in 1998. The draft version of the criteria can be found here: http://www.resource-solutions.org/greenpricingcriteriadocs.htm.
The meeting will be held from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. at the Log Cabin in the Presidio of San Francisco. The agenda will generally consist of introductions, a review of the draft criteria, consideration of changes to the criteria, a discussion of issues related to the California RPS and how it affects Green-e certification, and next steps. A detailed agenda and directions will be sent in advance of the meeting. If you cannot attend the meeting on May 12, you will still have the opportunity to provide written comments on any proposed comments to the criteria before it is finalized.
