What Is The Municipal Forester Institute?
The Municipal Forester
Institute (MFI) is an exciting training opportunity to help people
be more effective in promoting healthy urban forests in their communities. MFI is a week-long
intensive training event that will be a challenging professional growth opportunity for
all attendees. The event will be held February 18-23, 2007 at the Lake Arrowhead’s
UCLA Conference center, located in the mountains east of Los Angeles California.
Who Should Attend The MFI?
This Institute is designed for those individuals who have policy and decision-making authority
over trees in their city. People who hold titles such as city forester, municipal arborist,
urban forester, urban forestry specialist, community forester, and so forth are the target
audience for this program.
What Will MFI Cover?
The goal of the Municipal Forestry Institute is to help people improve their effectiveness
in administering urban forestry programs. Some topics to be covered include:
- Developing a Leadership Approach to Urban Forestry Programs
- Growing & Enhancing an Urban Forestry Program
- Strategic Planning and Urban Forest Management Plans
- Working Effectively with Boards, Commissions, Committees & Coalitions
Who Is Involved With MFI?
The steering committee and teaching cadre for the Municipal Forester Institute consist
of professionals with many years of experience in urban forestry in the US and Canada.
Presenters representing small and large city urban forestry programs, Cooperative Extension,
State Urban Forestry Programs, and nonprofit organizations will be present at MFI.
