An Energy Newsletter for Local Governments
Future energy supply to meet demand in California is still projected to have a significant short fall much of this gap would be cost efficiently reduced through increased energy efficiency and greater use of small scale generation (i.e., solar, fuel cells and co-generation generated on site and matched to the needs of the facility). Both energy efficiency and on-site small scale distributed generation have advantages of reduced environmental impact, forgoing need for transmission infrastructure, and contribute to over-all greater system reliability.
Making distributed generation a viable contribution will require policy support at the local level. To develop policies and procedures that support distributed energy resources, the California Energy Commission has contracted for an examination of benefits of distributed generation and identification of best practices to overcome existing barriers.
