PLANS: Operation Clean Air Unveils Draft Plan
A
draft 5-year clean air action plan for the San Joaquin Valley was
presented at the Operation Clean Air Inaugural Summit at the Fresno
Convention Center on April 23. Working groups representing agriculture,
the building industry, community groups, nonprofits, education,
environmental groups, businesses, governments, health organizations,
and utilities all contributed to the initial plan, which contains
voluntary emission reduction strategies they believe the various
sectors can implement. Reduction measures included in the plan are
in addition to those of existing regulatory programs of the San
Joaquin Valley Air District. The plan also identifies resources
needed to achieve the proposed reductions, including development
of an air quality empowerment zone to obtain funding
for reducing emissions and tax credits for money spent on emission
controls.
Operation
Clean Air (OCA) is the collective effort of business, government,
and community leaders from San Joaquin to Kern counties working
to identify voluntary strategies that can clean the air of the San
Joaquin Valley. OCA welcomes feedback on this early draft of the
plan. Visit the OCA
web site to see the plan, comment forms and information about
OCA and the Inaugural summit.
