Upcoming Workshop on Emergency
Response and Street Design for Livable Neighborhoods
The City
of Petaluma Fire Marshals office is hosting a one-day
workshop in Petaluma on July 12 to inform city planners, traffic
engineers, fire marshals and other emergency responders about
traffic calming and traditional neighborhood street design. Led
by Dan Burden of Walkable Communities with LGCs Paul Zykofsky,
the workshop will include presentations followed by facilitated
discussion and resolution of issues associated with emergency
response time, traffic calming, and pedestrian-friendly streets
as building blocks of livable neighborhoods. The workshop will
also include a walk audit and fire equipment demonstration to
further explore street design techniques to ensure adequate neighborhood
access for emergency responders.
The Northern California Fire Prevention Officers North
Division, Bay Area Planning Directors Association, Petaluma Fire
Marshals Office, Local Government Commission and Walkable
Communities are sponsoring the event, with funding support provided
by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
